Hap's Grill
About This Spot
Hap’s Grill is the kind of casual local eatery that feels like a friendly handshake from Salisbury’s past. Tucked away on 1/2 N Main Street, it hums quietly with the rhythm of everyday life — a place where the pace slows just enough for you to soak in the simple joys of a good meal and familiar faces. The atmosphere is unpretentious, with a handful of sidewalk tables encouraging a laid-back, come-as-you-are kind of vibe. Here, the chatter is low and warm, blending with the comforting sizzle and aromas of familiar American fast food done with care.
Stepping up to the counter, you’re met by an experience that revolves around uncomplicated favorites — hot dogs and burgers generously dressed “all the way,” their layers of mustard, chili, and onions forming a nostalgic embrace. These aren’t just quick bites; they’re handshake gestures between generations, each one served with a side of genuine Southern hospitality. The distinctive local touch of Cheerwine, sometimes enjoyed as a chilly slush, adds a splash of heritage to the meal, reminding you that food here carries the flavors of community and place.
Despite the simplicity of the menu, the food arrives fresh and thoughtfully prepared, reflecting an establishment that values doing a few things very well. The owners and staff bring a warmth that feels personal — like they know regulars by name and are quietly proud to share this space and its flavors with newcomers alike. It may be a small, takeout-focused spot without a formal dining room, but that only invites you to step outside, find a sunny patch on the sidewalk, and savor a moment that’s both grounded and distinctly Salisbury.

A great spot to pick up lunch in Salisbury (just look for the line!). Cash only and takeout only - there are a few tables out on the sidewalk, but we happily took our order over to New Sarum (What's better than a burger and beer? Though you can also find glass bottle Cheerwine at Haps).

Today was the perfect day to grab some lunch where we could stand outside and eat. Extremely simple concept and menu. It works so well! We ordered 2 hot dogs with chili and mustard and 1 cheeseburger all the way (mustard, chili & onions). The burger was nice and fresh and fit the bun perfectly so you get a burger and bread in every bite. The hot dogs were good and the mustard and chili complemented it well. All drinks are in glass bottles, and being in Salisbury-Cheerwine is a must! Staff was super nice and very efficient.

Good food and great service are a Hallmark of this long-term institution of the area. Has very basic menu but done right. Go out and try it you will surely enjoy it.

I love this place . I dont think i was in there for 60 whole seconds but its exactly what I thought it would be. Theres something nostalgic about it even if youve never been there before . Its not trying to be anything its not like 90 percent of restaurants today. I walked in everyone there the few that could fit and im including staff seemed to at least know each other or they fooled the heck out of me which i liked and I watched the food leave a hot grill as I was ordering it it was both fresh and zero wait Im not even entirely sure if the money left my hands before my food was ready . Its not gourmet but its good simple fast fresh and affordable and it'll remind you of a place you cant quite put your finger on.

If you're in Salisbury, NC, do yourself a favor and eat here!! I've been eating here ever since my family first moved to Salisbury in 1992!! The owners are great, the staff is amazing, and they have THEE best hotdogs in the whole state!! The staff helps you decide if you want "all the way", or however you want it!! Greeted with a warm smile, and a welcoming "Hello"!!! There's no where to sit, but you can stand at the bar or head outside onto the street and eat at a bench!! It's literally a hidden gem and a diamond in the rough. We come here everytime that we are in town!!! They've been open a long time, for good reason!! Their food is great, the employees are fantastic, and the owners treat everyone with respect, especially the employees!! Go ahead, eat that chili dog or hamburger, YOU DESERVE IT!!!

If you are looking for a either plain or chili burger or hotdog in or near Salsbury... stop at Haps. Line was out the door and up the street, prices were decent and we enjoyed our burgers and hotbdog. Patrons in line were friendly and you should budget 1/2 hour for ordering and pick up. Overall great experience.

Good greasy burger, all the way and you can't go wrong. The chili is yummy . The hotdogs are good as well. Usually always a line so be warned , but they move the line fast. It's small, little hole in the wall basically. If you want a quick, good burger definitely go here. It's a order and go place so no place to sit. There are standing tables on the sidewalk where people stand up and eat sometimes and a bench there. They only take cash , there is a atm up at the top of the corner. So if you didn't bring cash with ya, there is one right there.

10 out of 10 I definitely recommend! This is my second time going (45 minute ride one way just for this!)and I enjoyed it as much as the first time. I like my food a little on the salty side but they do have salt and pepper packets upon request. It is cash only! Great small town feel with all the smiling faces! Enjoy!
